THE FIRST OF ITS KIND VIDEO SERIES THAT COMBINES STIMULATING IMAGES WITH CLASSICAL MUSIC TO PROMOTE INFANT DEVELOPMENT

New Video Series Has Profound Impact On Visually Impaired Children

LOS ANGELES, CA — Recent studies have shown that during the first 12 months of an infant's life, maximizing both the amount of stimulation as well as the kind and quality of stimulation ensure a strong foundation for a child's future learning.

BABYSCAPES™, the innovative videotape series that fuses the visual stimulation of high-contrast, three-dimensional geometric objects with the soothing sounds of classical music, was designed to increase an infant's attention span, promote multi-sensory learning, and maximize early stimulation for brain growth and development.

Created for the parent and child to view together, BABYSCAPES™ is both stimulating and entertaining. BABYSCAPES™ was specifically designed to positively impact an infant's visual/spatial, logical/mathematical, musical/rhythmic and interpersonal intelligences — those domains that are significantly impacted by stimulation and interaction during the infant's crucial first year.

BABYSCAPES™ is the only videotape series of its kind and was created for children ages three months and older. The three-tape series includes Baby's Smart Start which combines six carefully selected classical music selections with a series of computer generated black, white and red geometric images; Celebration Of Color which features multi-colored fireworks and abstract shapes that move to the sounds of upbeat classical music pieces; and Miracle Of Mozart which teaches children numbers and shapes underscored by the sounds of Mozart's most soothing classical music.

MOZART AND CLASSICAL MUSIC CAN HELP
DEVELOP LEARNING SKILLS

A study conducted by psychologist, Dr. Frances Rauscher, Ph.D and neuroscientist, Dr. Gordon Shaw, Ph.D., both of California State University at Irvine, demonstrated that students who listened to Mozart while studying for an exam received significantly higher test scores (see enclosed study). Don Campbell's book, "The Mozart Effect" discloses that Mozart's musical selections have been proven to increase receptivity and retention, actually assisting infants in learning. Other research has shown that classical music is processed in the same side of the brain as math and language and that listening to classical music can play a role in math and language skill development.

ENHANCES THE BONDING PROCESS
The BABYSCAPES™ video series promotes multi-sensory learning experiences and enhances the active self stimulation in infants, toddlers and young children. These incredible videos also facilitate and enhance the parent-infant bonding process.

As the parent cradles the infant, the baby is entranced by the colorful images that move across the screen to the sounds of classical music. This stimulates the infant and helps teach the infant to pay attention when sitting with his or her parent.

VIDEOS OFFER STIMULATING EXPERIENCE FOR
VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN

According to Keri Mann of BABYSCAPES™, "several Universities, Hospitals and Government Agencies are now using the BABYSCAPES™ Video series as a tool for enhancing sensory stimulation in children diagnosed with low vision or even those diagnosed with no vision. The high contrast images combined with the slow rate of movement as presented in our videos provides visually impaired children with a creative, engaging multi-sensory experience."

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY
Child experts agree that classical music should be an integral part of a total infant stimulation program and can significantly impact a child's ability to learn. In fact, many experts recommend using classical music during the learning process to increase a child's receptivity and retention.

Jane M. Healy, author of Your Child's Growing Mind, says that after birth "auditory stimulation promotes emotional, social and language development. Soothing, pleasant and interesting sounds inspire curiosity and a receptive attitude toward language." The classical pieces that are an integral part of each segment of BABYSCAPES™ were carefully selected for both their soothing and stimulating qualities.

Showing BABYSCAPES™ to developing babies introduces them to an extremely positive force at a time when their brain is growing at an unbelievable rate. Experts agree that proper stimulation provided during the first 12 months of life has more impact on the child's brain growth and development than at any other time in his or her life.

Each BABYSCAPES™ video is approximately 30 minutes in length. A 24-page Parents Guide to help maximize the interactive and loving infant stimulation process is enclosed in the Baby's Smart Start video. The booklet also addresses some of the questions and concerns parents may have about the infant stimulation program and how they may achieve the best results.

BABYSCAPES™ videos are available nationwide at TOYS 'R US and at leading baby specialty retailers across the United States including: Zany Brainy, Store of Knowledge, and Right Start stores. They are also available through the One Step Ahead catalog. The suggested retail price is $14.95 each.

Testimonials

I purchased Babyscapes Video Mobile for my 2 1/2 year old son Cody who has Cerebral Palsy and Cortical Visual Impairment. We have used the video for vision therapy for Cody and it has been a godsend. This video has given him independent play and myself some free time. We are currently using the video as an inspiration for Cody to walk in his gate trainer. He also has a communication board with a picture from the video box which allows him to tell me when he wants to watch the video. Cody's vision and tracking of objects is improving thanks to Babyscapes.
    S. LITZELMAN, — DUSHORE, PA

We are the parents of a child with Cerebral Palsy. He has very limited abilities — visually, body control and cognitive skills. We bought Babyscapes for Joseph when he was about 6-8 months old. At this time, he showed very little interest in almost everything. He also showed a lack of attention span even if something did interest him. When we showed Joseph the video, he watched very attentively. The figures and the music seemed to really catch his attention and it lasted for quite a while. We showed Joseph this video regularly for about a year. This was still very unusual for him to show continual interest especially for several minutes. There were very few items that we used that would cause this much reaction. Joseph is three years old now and has improved greatly. He is now wearing glasses to improve vision and we are going to reintroduce this video with hopes that with his physical improvements it will allow him to enjoy the video even more. We feel that this is a good product to introduce to any child especially those that are mentally or physically challenged.

"Babyscapes has been used at the New Jersey Early Intervention Program. We tested Babyscapes on one of our patients. She has Moebius Sequence Disorder which means she can't move her eyes laterally and has a limited attention span. When we showed her Babyscapes, we noticed an increase in visual focus and attention span. The music was soft and soothing and the images are bright and bold. I performed stretching and moving exercises with her to the video as well. We have recommended the video to other parents."
